P0335 — Crankshaft Position Sensor A Circuit

High severity

What it means

P0335 is stored when the engine control unit sees a fault involving the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor circuit. The crankshaft position sensor tells the control unit engine speed and piston position; without a reliable signal the engine cannot run. The control unit has flagged this circuit or signal as outside its normal operating range.

Common symptoms

Likely causes

What to check first

  1. Inspect the connector and wiring for damage, corrosion or loose pins
  2. Watch live RPM while cranking — no RPM points to the CKP signal
  3. Inspect the sensor connector and tone ring

Can you keep driving?

Take it seriously: a failing crank sensor can stall the engine without warning, so avoid driving if it cuts out.
