P0222 — Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor B Circuit Low

Moderate severity

What it means

P0222 is stored when the engine control unit sees a fault involving throttle/pedal position sensor B. Sensor B is the second, redundant throttle/pedal position signal that the control unit cross-checks against sensor A for safety. A “low” reading means the signal is stuck near the bottom of its range, which usually points to a short to ground or an internally failed sensor.

Common symptoms

Likely causes

What to check first

  1. Compare the live signal against a known-good range and check for a short to ground
  2. Compare sensor A and B percentages in live data — they should track together
  3. Inspect the connector and wiring

Can you keep driving?

Because B is a safety-redundant signal, the car often drops to reduced power; have it checked promptly.
