P0154 — O2 Sensor Circuit No Activity Detected (Bank 2, Sensor 1)

Low severity

What it means

P0154 is stored when the engine control unit sees a fault involving the upstream oxygen sensor on bank 2 (sensor 1). On V-type engines, bank 2 is the cylinder bank opposite cylinder 1; this upstream sensor trims fuel for that bank before the converter. “No activity” means the oxygen-sensor signal is flatlined, so the control unit cannot use it for fuel control at all.

Common symptoms

Likely causes

What to check first

  1. Check sensor heater power and ground, then the signal wiring
  2. Compare bank 1 and bank 2 sensor behaviour in live data
  3. Inspect the bank 2 exhaust and sensor wiring

Can you keep driving?

Drivable short-term; like any fuel-control sensor it wastes fuel and stresses the converter, so repair soon.

Frequently asked questions

What is the most common cause of P0154?

The most likely cause is: Dead sensor or failed heater element. Several other faults can set P0154 as well, so confirm the real cause with live data and the checks above before replacing any parts.

Can I just clear P0154 and keep driving?

Clearing P0154 with an OBD2 scanner turns the warning light off, but if the underlying fault has not been repaired the code will usually come back within a few drive cycles. Fix the cause first, then clear the code to confirm the repair worked.

How serious is P0154?

P0154 is a low-severity code. It rarely affects how the car drives, but it is still worth fixing so the engine runs efficiently and passes an emissions test.
